Absence makes the heart grow fonder

This past week Eric was out of town for a national theatre competition with his recent play, "The Elephant Man". Though I got a lot of homework done every night, it was too quiet and too lonely. He called me often to check on me but it only made me miss him more. It was our first time ever being apart since our wedding, and it was a lot harder than we anticipated. It's very true that absence makes the heart grow fonder. You never realize how much you take someone for granted until they're gone. I stayed up until two this morning, anxious for his arrival. Then we stayed up another hour or so while he ate the dinner I had made him (Chicken Amadine), and told me all his stories. BYU had won every single award -with the exception of one - and had really made an impression on all the other schools, including ones like Yale and Harvard. The judges in some of the workshops had even made comments how their favorite actors and actresses to work with were always BYU students because they were so talented. I thought it pretty incredible because Eric had told me how dirty most of the other school's plays, monologues, and songs were. And we had walked in without the language, the dirty comments, the filth, and won single handedly. This truly is the Lord's school.

While alone this week, I got pretty creative with my crafts and decorated for Valentines Day. Eric says it looks like Cupid exploded in our apartment. Here are some pictures of what I created:

Cuppy-cakes!

Finally after weeks of trying to coordinate schedules, we had Katie and Jeff over to decorate V-day cup cakes and play games! We made cookie cupcakes from scratch and used some European chocolate we got on our honeymoon. Then we made homemade cream-cheese frosting. They looked the bomb! Katie and Jeff were so much fun to be around and the whole night we couldn't stop laughing! I'm so grateful to have so many wonderful friends who keep life full of sunshine and help all of us forget the stresses of midterms that are slowly creeping up on us...

Baylee's Baby Shower

Friday we got together at Kimmy's to celebrate Baylee's soon-to-be baby girl. All five of us girls married five guys who were all roommates at King Henry, once upon a time. Whether by default, or destiny, we've become really good friends. It's incredible how similar us girls are, and how similar our husbands are. I had some pretty good laughs talking about all the crazy things our husbands do the same. I hadn't had so much fun in a long time! With all of us girls talking and laughing ourselves to tears, we just didn't want the night to end. We'll have to make it a new tradition to hang out more often. When the five of us get together with our five husbands, it's pretty much the best thing that ever happened.

Temple Square

This weekend we headed up to SLC and met up with Alicia, Peter, Kimmy, Nick, Baylee and Jared. I guess it's tradition with the roommates to meet up every year and look at the Christmas lights. The funny thing is, last year, most of the roommates had girlfriends in the pictures. This year, they're all different girls....and we're married! It was actually my first time seeing the temple lights and all the nativities at Christmas time. There was such a humbling spirit as we walked around (freezing) and looking at not only all the lights, but all the different kinds of people who were there to see them. We also treated ourselves to dinner at the Red Iguana, a very popular, but small, Mexican restaurant with valet parking - and then spent the rest of the evening playing games at Peter and Alicia's. It's always a lot of fun getting together, exchanging old memories from King Henry, and laughing our heads off. We are so blessed to have the friends that we do.
